Dhoni gets studious, seeks admission in B Com

New Delhi: Indian One-Day and Twenty20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has already made his mark on the cricket field. Now the wicketkeeper/batsman wants to get back to academics and complete his graduation.

Dhoni is aspiring to go into a college and get Bachelor of Commerce degree.

A resident of Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi, Dhoni wants to take admission in St Xavier's College through the sports quota.

Even though the college has agreed to admit him and has asked him to fill up the admission form, but the college authorities have said that Dhoni can be admitted only after they consult Ranchi University.

The decision will also have to be ratified by the Jharkhand Academic Council.

Dhoni has already met Ranchi University Sports Director Jai Kumar Sinha.

Dhoni led the Indian team that won the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa last year and in February this year he guided the Indian One-Day team to its first-ever tri-series triumph in Australia defeating the world champions in the two finals.

He was auctioned for Rs 6 crore in Indian Premier League and will play for the Chennai Super Kings in the Twenty20 tournament starting April 18.

SRK's Knight Riders ready for IPL stage

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League is gaining momentum and it's almost like it's Shah Rukh Khan and not Sourav Ganguly who's the public face of the Kolkata team which is now called the Kolkata Knight Riders.

"I want every youth in Indian to be a Knight Rider," Shah Rukh Khan said on Tuesday in Kolkata.

The Bollywood superstar decided to pull out all stops in Kolkata to promote his team.

And with King Khan at the helm, the drama, the action and the comedy was inevitable.

Fresh from his stint as a coach in Chak De India. Shah Rukh kept his one-liners handy.

You don't win the silver, you lose the gold," he said.

Unveiling his teams logo and mascot, the actor pledged his faith in the city and his skipper.

"Kolkata is a city of cricket, plus the fact that it comes with the benefit of Sourav Ganguly who I really admire for his grit," he said.

And apart from grabbing attention - if you're wondering what exactly SRK's role in the whole campaign is.

"I have done what I am an expert at. I created a tongue-in-cheek logo," he said about

With the kind of popularity that SRK enjoys in Kolkata, the Knight Riders will pull in crowds. And as for the game itself, they do have 'Dada of Indian cricket'.

Publicity in place, the Knight Riders sure seem ready to kickstart their battle. Of course, with a prayer:

"I'm hoping they become the best team, become world famous," Juhi Chawla said.

Cricket-Tendulkar regains top spot in one-day rankings

NEW DELHI, March 5 (Reuters) - Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has regained top spot in the one-day rankings after leading his country to a tri-series triumph over Australia.

Tendulkar, who last topped the charts in August 2004, replaced Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, the International Cricket Council said on Wednesday.

Tendulkar climbed 10 places after match-winning knocks of 117 not out and 91 in the finals in Sydney and Brisbane respectively to aggregate 399 runs in the series, which ended on Tuesday.
He also holds the records for most one-day runs (16,361) and centuries (42).

Ponting, who made only 191 runs in 10 innings, is second, 17 points ahead of South African Graeme Smith.

Cricket-Symonds to face no action for knocking over streaker

SYDNEY, March 5 (Reuters) - Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds will face no action after he knocked over a streaker in his side's nine-run one-day international loss to India in Brisbane on Tuesday. Robert Murray David Ogilvie stormed the field and ran towards Symonds, who shoulder-charged him to the ground before the naked Ogilvie was led off by police and security guards.

"He was dealing with self-preservation which we support 100 percent," Cricket Australia's Michael Brown told reporters in Canberra.

"Andrew was in the zone and was severely threatened."

Ogilvie, 26, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Magistrates Court to interfering with persons engaged in sport and wilful exposure on Wednesday.

He was fined A$1,500 ($1,402) but no conviction was recorded. Police told Australian Associated Press they had not received a complaint about Symonds' actions.

Local media had suggested Symonds could have been charged under the International Cricket Council's Code of Conduct or charged with assault by police, had Ogilvie made a complaint. (Reporting by Greg Stutchbury in Hamilton, New Zealand, Editing by Martin Petty)

Harbhajan taunt claims dismissed

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has moved swiftly to dismiss suggestions India's Harbhajan Singh racially abused Australian fans.

It was claimed he made monkey gestures and spat at sections of the crowd as India beat Australia in Sydney.

Match referee Jeff Crowe spoke to security officials, viewed photographs and read newspaper reports before deciding there was no case to answer.

He said: "There is no need to take any action against Harbhajan Singh."

Before the ICC gave its verdict, India were insistent Harbhajan was innocent.

"He did nothing," said team manager Bimal Soni.

"These stories, I do not believe them and strongly condemn them. I think it is wrong.

"Nothing has been done like that, they are making a mountain out of a molehill."

Before the ICC announcement, former Australia skipper Allan Border also came out in defence of Harbhajan, saying: "I am not too sure how serious it is.

"I was on that side of the ground yesterday and Harbhajan was copping a fair bit of stick from the crowd.

"I didn't notice any gestures at all and I thought he handled himself quite well to be quite honest."

The allegations are the latest to affect India's controversial tour of Australia.

Harbhajan was initially banned for three Tests for allegedly calling Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds a monkey during the second Test in January.

But at an appeal hearing it was decided there had not been enough evidence to convict him of racial abuse.

Ishant Sharma lost 15% of a match fee for this gesture

The ICC instead charged him with using abusive language. Harbhajan was fined and did not serve any ban.

Australia batsman Matthew Hayden was reprimanded on 27 February for describing Harbhajan as an "obnoxious weed".

In between times, India cricket chiefs have proposed a complete ban on 'sledging' - the verbal abuse of players.

During India's time in Australia there have been suggestions their players have been goaded into over-stepping the mark.

When young India bowler Ishant Sharma was fined on 25 February for an aggressive gesture directed at Symonds, Crowe said: "Sharma may have been provoked."

The ICC says its existing "code of conduct" - combined with the actions of on-field umpires - can help implement a "zero-tolerance" approach to sledging.
